Frequently asked questions...

Will my child need a referral?

Picture
You don’t need a referral to be seen at the Banana Tree Practice,  you can arrange your appointment by contacting us directly.
We are happy to accept referrals from other professionals such as GP’s, consultants, teachers, health visitors. However, if using private medical insurance, most companies will require a referral from your doctor in order for you to reclaim your fees. Please check with your insurance company.

Are your therapists registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)?

Picture
Yes, all Therapists at the Banana Tree Practice are registered with the HCPC. The HCPC is a regulator set up to protect the public. To do this, they keep a Register of health and care professionals who meet their standards for  training, professional skills, behaviour and health. Registration numbers can be provided on request or you can check your therapists registration yourself on the HCPC website.

Can my child receive private therapy as well as input from an NHS therapist?

At the Banana Tree Practice we are more than happy to work alongside your NHS therapist. In these circumstances, we believe it is important that we communicate well and work closely together to ensure that your child benefits from both services and that we are working towards the same goals. We often find parents will use our services whilst they are waiting for NHS input  or to provide additional, more intensive input when required.

My child would benefit from both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy - do you offer joint assessment and treatment?

Picture
There are many instances where joint assessment and/or treatment are beneficial, for example a child who has problems with co-ordination and has difficulties with both fine and gross motor skills. At the Banana Tree Practice we are fortunate to be able to offer joint assessment and treatment planning to ensure that your child receives an integrated therapy programme that best meets their needs in an effective and timely manner. Assessment will be completed with both therapists present but ongoing therapy is likely to be offered individually, planned around your child’s needs.

What area do you cover?

We are based in South Cambridgeshire and provide assessment and treatment to children living in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties. Our fees include travel time and mileage for travel within a 15 mile radius from Meldreth/Melbourn in South Cambridgeshire. We can offer our service outside of this area but additional mileage will be charged.

Where will my child be seen?

Most children will be assessed and treated at home but with your permission, it may also be useful for us to see them at school or nursery. We are now also fortunate to be able to offer some sessions in Melbourn when these facilities are required.

What will my child need to wear for assessment and treatment?

It would be useful, particularly for physiotherapy assessment, if your child could wear loose comfortable clothing that they can move in easily. A pair of shorts and a t-shirt will help us to be able to observe your child’s movement more easily.

Will you liaise with other professionals involved in my child’s care?

We believe it is vitally important that there is good communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team and therefore are more than happy to communicate with other professionals involved with your child with your permission. You are welcome to copy our reports as many times as you require.

What are your fees?

Fees are dependant on the services you receive. For a current list of fees, please contact us.
