COVID 19 - UPDATE - 7th January 2021
Happy New Year to you all!

We hope you had a restful Christmas and this message finds you and your families safe and well.

Sadly, it is becoming increasingly apparent that we need to reconsider our current way of working at The Banana Tree Practice due to the rapidly changing situation with regard to Covid-19, especially with the new, more contagious variant which has seen us shift from Tier 2 to complete lockdown within only a few weeks in the East of England.

We have therefore taken the difficult decision, that to keep everyone we work with safe, as well as ourselves and our own families, that we need to stop all direct face to face contact until February in the first instance. We will, of course, review this on a regular basis and update you as and when the situation changes.

Although we have strict infection control protocols in place, the nature of the therapy we offer generally requires direct contact with children and certainly operating within the 2 metre distancing requirements, and we feel that the risks of the new Covid variant and it's high prevalence in the community, currently outweigh the benefits in the vast majority of cases. As we are community based, we also travel between a variety of settings and across counties, which also increases risks of transmission.

We are so sorry that we have had to make this decision but, with light at the end of the tunnel in terms of the vaccine, it seems prudent to keep everyone as safe as possible at this time.

As each child and young person we see is in a slightly different setting and circumstance, we will be endeavouring to make direct contact with each parent / carer to discuss what options there may be for some virtual input where this is appropriate.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns about your child’s development and need any advice or support in the meantime; whether you are existing clients or new to the Practice, we are here to help.

We really hope it won’t be too long before we can get back to some form of normality and see all our lovely families again,

Take care,

Melanie and Ruth x

We are able to offer advice, assessment and treatment for a wide variety of childhood disorders including:
  • Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD ) / Dyspraxia and its associated difficulties
  • Developmental Delay
  • Neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy or Acquired Brain Injury, including post op rehabilitation following procedures such as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy and Botulinum toxin injections
  • Rheumatological conditions such as Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and Perthe's disease
  • Genetic conditions such as Down’s syndrome
  • Sensory Processing Difficulties associated with Autism and other developmental disorders

We are fortunate at the Banana Tree Practice to be able to provide either individual therapy input, or combined Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy intervention. This ensures that your child will receive an integrated therapy programme that best meets their needs in an effective, accessible and timely manner. One-to-one
professional
 private therapy

The Occupational Therapy Service is provided by Ruth Le May and the Physiotherapy service by Melanie Jones. We have both  worked within the NHS in the paediatric field for over 23 years and gained extensive experience in hospital and community settings and provided input into both mainstream and Special Schools. We both have a special interest in the assessment and treatment of Developmental Coordination Disorders, Dyspraxia and Sensory Processing Disorders. Both Melanie and Ruth are qualified Sensory Integration Practitioners, Ruth at an Advanced level.

As parents ourselves, we recognise the importance of working together with everyone involved with your child to ensure that treatment goals are both realistic and relevant to your child’s daily life and focused on skills that are important to them. We believe this will help your child remain motivated and positive towards their therapy, an essential prerequisite for a successful outcome. We work hard to make sure our sessions are fun and something that your child will look forward to and enjoy.
